Top 50 Film Scores:

1. The Empire Strikes Back - John Williams

Here it is: my #1 favorite film score. Just as Howard Shore took the music he created for Middle Earth, and expanded it for The Return of the King, Williams does it tenfold by creating a multitude of new motifs and melodies, including “The Imperial March”, Han and Leia’s love theme, Yoda’s theme (all of which can be heard above), a Bespin theme, “The Asteroid Field”, and of course, “The Battle of Hoth”, while still using the original material, close to the hearts of the fans. The score is creative, and full both old and new material from Williams. It is an integral part of the film, and it is impossible for me to imagine the film without it. The music fits every scene, and every cue perfectly. It is an outstanding accomplishment from Williams, and everything that I imagine when I hear Star Wars mentioned. Being a Star Wars fanatic as a child, it only makes sense that the music would stick with me for so long. It has, and likely will forever…and I’m just fine with that.
